Text Box: Dear Mila Family Members, Welcome to MILA Elementary where your student will be exposed to a variety of lessons that incorporate Ready Bodies Learning Minds, Brain Gym, Sensory Motor Integrated Learning Environment (S.M.I.L.E. Lab), Literacy and Wellness.  While having a great time, they will be exposed to a positive environment and achieve the Physical Education Sunshine State Standards set by this county and the State of Florida.                                        My students, PreK—1 and ESE, will also go through a two year scope and sequence of physical activities that scaffold skills from Pre-K through the second grade.  This will ensure that every child has been exposed to every activity that might encourage a lifetime of fitness and health.  Your child will also be taught the value of Brain Gym. Brain gym consists of body movements that integrate the right and left hemispheres of the brain. With brain gym, students learn easier, are better listeners, able to stay focused and calm. Brain gym gives your student the ability to reach parts of their brains that have been inaccessible.                                        This year MILA is piloting a new and exciting program called Ready Bodies Learning Minds.  This program emphasizes the powerful and essential connection between motor and sensory development and the ability to perform the many tasks necessary for independence, behavioral control and academic achievement.   MILA’s  S.M.I.L.E. Lab consists of 20+ activity stations.  Every minute the music pauses and the student advances to the next station.  Each station requires different skills: i.e. tossing, catching, jumping, cross lateral movements, brain gym exercises, eye-hand coordination activities, and many more.  The students love the stations and are totally engaged.  Ask your K-1 student about the S.M.I.L.E. lab.                                             In addition to these physical activities, your child will also be exposed to dance.  We learn the basics of square dancing, the Cupid Shuffle, Macarena, and various other dances.
